'Horns Host Mount Royal in Front End of First Ever Series

Lethbridge – Nearing the mid-point of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s hockey team (0-9-1 CW) will face the Mount Royal Cougars (2-10-0) for the first time in conference action in a home-and-home series. With both teams riding losing streaks, something has to give this weekend and the ‘Horns are hoping that the Cougars are just the remedy to turn their season around.

The weekend set begins Friday night in Lethbridge, with the puck drop being set for 7:00pm at Nicholas Sheran Arena. The back half of the series will go Saturday night in Calgary at the Flames Community Arena, also at 7:00pm.

Both games will be broadcast at www.canadawest.tv, home for all Canada West webcasts.

With only three weeks until the semester break, the ‘Horns are dangerously close to digging an insurmountable deficit  and will need to make a push before the break if they are to remain in post-season contention for the second half.

Offensive production continues to be the ‘Horns Achilles heel, scoring a conference low 18 goals in 10 games and while the ‘Horns scored twice on the power play last weekend, their power play ranks seventh in the conference, operating at 11.5%.

A pair of freshmen lead the ‘Horns in scoring with Chase Schaber leading the way with three goals and seven assists, while Hayden Rintoul, who played forward for the first time last weekend and scored twice, has six points in 10 games.

In their inaugural season in Canada West, the Cougars have had an up and down first season. After opening the season with some solid performances, the Cougars have lost their last four games and seven of their last eight games. During the Cougars current four game losing streak, they have surrendered 23 goals against and are now tied with the ‘Horns for the most goals allowed in the conference with 49.

The ‘Horns and Cougars faced off once during the preseason with the Cougars winning in Calgary 3-2 in overtime.
