Kamloops, BC—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack have broken into the win column for the first time in their last eight starts. The WolfPack downed the visiting University of Lethbridge Pronghorns  90-81 Friday night (Jan 11) at the TRU Gym.

The WolfPack raised their league record to 5-7 while Lethbridge fell to 5-6 on the season.

“I thought that they got some transition baskets in the second half and they shot the ball well,” said WolfPack head coach Scott Clark about Lightbridge’s ability to come back from a 51-27 half time deficit. “ They are a good shooting team and we didn’t do a good job of getting back and rebounding the basketball.”

The Pronghorns outscored the WolfPack 23-11 and 31-28 in the final two quarters to make it close. At one point in the fourth quarter, they went on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to four points, but that would be as close as they would get.

“Defensively, we did not do our jobs—we didn’t get back and we didn’t rebound the basketball,” said Clark.

Lethbridge had four players in double figures.  Chaz Johnson (1st year, point guard, Spokane, WA) had 21 points followed by Julian Spear Chief-Morris (4th year, guard,  Lethbridge, AB) with 20 points.  Derek Waldner (3rd year, forward, DeWinton, AB) had a double-double with 18 rebounds and 14 points.  Morgan Duce (3rd year, guard, Raymond, AB) had 11 points.

Brett Rouault  (3rd year, guard, Vernon, BC)  was named the TRU Bookstore/McDonald’s “Leader of the Pack” player of the game with 28 points and eight rebounds.  Rouault scored buzzer beaters in the first and second quarters and was 5-6 from three point territory.

Kevin Pribilsky (5th year, guard, Victoria, BC) had 20points while Troy Grant (1st year, guard, Toronto, ON) had10 points.

DJ Oates  (1st year, forward, Albury, Australia) had 10 rebounds-nine on defence.

Clark admitted that the win relieves some frustration on the part of his crew. “  There was a level of frustration because the guys had worked hard. Whenever you work hard and you don’t see results, that could result in some frustration. I think this was a bit of a breakthrough. I am really happy for the guys.”

The `Horns travel to Kelowna to face the UBC-O Heat tomorrow night. Tip off is set for 7pm PST and the game will be webcast on www.canadawest.tv.
