Box Score
Lethbridge – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns were unable to contain the offensive prowess of the University of Calgary Dinos, Friday night, and fell 4-1 in the first of a two game home-and-home series.
Walker Wintoneak and Adam Kambeitz each earned individual markers for the Dinos while Christopher Collins added two on the night. David McMullen netted the lone goal for Lethbridge.
In net for the Dinos was Kris Lazaruk who turned aside all but one of the 26 shot he faced.
Damien Ketlo got the start for the 'Horns and faced 25 shots prior to being relieved by Dylan Tait in the second period. Tait went on to stop all 13 shots he faced.
As the first period got underway the Dinos offensive unit came out charging, making the most of early opportunities, and getting good scoring chances as a result. Chance Lund and Cory Pritz each got early shots on net but neither would manage to convert.
The first goal of the night came less than three minutes into play. Blazing around the net, Lethbridge native Adam Kambeitz's wrap-around effort was stonewalled by Ketlo but the juicy rebound was corralled by first-year forward Christopher Collins, who would put the puck past the outstretched keeper, making it 1-0 Dinos.
With the 'Horns in the box for a holding penalty, Wintoneak capitalized on a golden opportunity and added a quick marker mere seconds into the power play. After Lund's hard shot from just inside the blue was turned aside, Wintoneak grabbed the loose puck and put it past Ketlo to lift his team to 2-0 lead.
Despite great scoring chances by Tim Campbell and Brent Henke, the 'Horns would continue to struggle to put one past Lazaruk, who looked solid between the pipes.
With less than a minute remaining in the opening frame Dan Gibb's hard blast from just inside the blue line was denied by Ketlo who skillfully snatched the puck down to and covered up to keep the game within two.
An early second period turnover in the neutral zone saw the Dinos breakout into a fast offensive rush. Flying into the slot, Collins secured his second of the night, unassisted, unloading a hard wrister high blocker side to beat the Lethbridge net-minder and widen the gap to three.
The Dinos added their fourth of the night at 7:34. A hard screened shot by Kambeitz at the point snuck through traffic and past Ketlo, bringing the tally to four unanswered goals and spelling the end of Ketlo's night.
Lethbridge cracked the score sheet in the first minute of the third, shattering Lazaruk's hopes for a shut-out, and brought the home crowd to its feet. McMullen 's hard shot from just outside the circle, from Brock Hirsche and Cass Mappin, went top shelf past the unsuspecting keeper.
Despite great chances by Devon Kalinski, Ryon Moser, and Tim Campbell in the third, the 'Horns were unable to mount a comeback.
The win keeps the Dinos perfect on the season at 5-0-0, while the 'Horns remain winless at 0-3-0.
