Box Score

Lethbridge – Led by Devin Gannon, the Mount Royal Cougars mounted an impressive 4-1 victory over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, Friday night, at Nicholas Sheran arena in the first of a two-game home and home series.

Devin Gannon scored all four of the goals for Mount Royal, while Daniel Fainmann netted his first CIS marker for the lone goal for Lethbridge.
In net for the Cougars was Dalyn Flette, who managed to stop all but one of the 33 shots he faced. Damien Ketlo got the start for the Horns and faced 44 shots on the night.

Each team looked great in the opening minutes of play and as a result each earned some great scoring chances. Lethbridge's Ryon Moser's quick shot was gloved down by Flette early into the first, as was Hayden Rintoul's hard shot from just inside the blue.

Mount Royal pushed back and Justin Kirsch's blast from the point missed the mark and an early effort by Gannon was redirected out of harm's way. Their hard work paid off just past the midway mark of the frame, as the Cougars capitalized on a power play opportunity. With a bunch of bodies in front of, Gannon netted his first of the night, from Cody Cartier and Justin Kirsch, pushing the puck past a down and out Ketlo.

The Cougars would add to their lead at 16:47. Matthew Brown came blazing into the Horns end and rifled a hard tape to tape pass to Gannon who quickly lifted the puck past the Lethbridge keeper for his second of the night.

With Mount Royal's Matt Strong in the box for holding early in the second, Gannon and Brown would strike again, this time shorthanded, to complete the natural hat-trick.

Despite some great chances by Guilaume Naud and Tim Campbell, the Horns wouldn't manage to crack the score sheet in the second.
Just less than four minutes into the third, Gannon and Brown gave a three-peat performance, bringing their team's tally to four unanswered, beating Ketlo top shelf glove side.

Daniel Fainmann robbed Flette of an impending shutout just past the ten minute marker but that would be as close as the Horns would come.
The win pushes the Cougars record to 5-7-1, while the 'Horns suffer their six loss in a row and fall to 1-12-0 on the season.

Game two of the home and home series goes tomorrow night at Flames Community Arena. Game time is set for 7pm and will also be broadcast live on http://canadawest.tv.
