Lethbridge - The UBC Thunderbirds came from behind to notch a 3-1 win against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, Saturday night, at Nicholas Sheran Arena and earn the weekend sweep.

Cole Wilson, Hoban, and Ben Schmidt were the goal scorers for UBC. Brent Henke scored the lone goal for Lethbridge.

Damien Ketlo got the start for the Pronghorns, facing 41 shots on the night.Steven Stanford started for the T-Birds and turned aside 33 of the 34 shots he faced.

After a tough loss last night, the Pronghorns looked to bounce back and earn a split of the two game weekend series. Ryan Aasman and Cass Mappin each had early chances for the Pronghorns.

Ketlo looked confident between the pipes for Lethbridge. Greg Fraser hit Scott MacDonald with a great centering pass from behind the Horns net but Ketlo stood tall to shut him down.

The second period started with some four on four action. A great shot by Jason Yee was kicked aside by Ketlo. Dan Iwanski, Brock Hirsche, and Guillaume Naud each unloaded hard shots for the 'Horns that were turned aside by Stanford.

Mason Conway's chip pass up to Henke allowed him to unload a wrister that snuck through Stanford's five-hole to give the Horns the lead at 5:23 of the second period.

But their lead would be short-lived. After Nate Flemming's shot hit the post, Wilson grabbed the rebound and buried it at 6:29, knotting things right back up at ones.

With Luke Lockheart in the box for holding at 16:15 the 'Horns power play unit was put to the test. Ryon Moser was stonewalled by Stanford after McMullen found him open in front of the net and, as time expired in the frame, Hayden Rintoul's off-angle shot was confidently gloved down by the UBC keeper.

Hoban's shot from the high slot snuck under the crossbar at 4:47 to give his team a critical third period lead.

Mitch Maxwell came streaking into the UBC zone looking to answer back but Stanford stayed with him and his effort was quickly diffused.

The 'Horns went on the PP at 9:44 after Brendan Underwood was called for interference. After earning three shorthanded markers in last night's game, Luke Lockheart's effort was swiftly kicked aside by Ketlo.

The Horns ramped up their offensive effort as the third came to a close, but they could not find the equalizer. Mitch Maxwell found Guillaume Naud alone in front but his shot was denied.
Cass Mappin's effort was also gloved down.

With Ketlo on the bench for the extra attacker, Schmidt added an empty net goal in the final minute of play.

With this loss the Pronghorns fall to 1-14-1 CW while the T-Birds improve to 5-10-1, both teams will now head into semester break and return early in January. The 'Horns will host the Regina Cougars, January 3
rd and 4
th, while the Thunderbirds won't return to action until January 10
th and 11
th, traveling to Regina to face the Cougars.
