Box Score
Lethbridge – Looking to play spoiler and deny the Calgary Dinos a trip to the playoffs, the Lethbridge Pronghorns were able to do just that, downing the Dinos 95-78 in the 2012-2013 season finale for the both teams.
With the win the ‘Horns improve to 12-10 on the season, improving on their 11-9 season a year ago but unfortunately fell two wins short of making the post-season in a tightly contested Canada West Prairie Division. The Dinos fall to 13-9 and miss the playoffs by only one game.
Playing in their final game in Pronghorn silks, Derek Waldner and Julian Spear Chief-Morris went out in style, leading the ‘Horns with 22 and 21 points respectively. Waldner, who caps his career as among the best to ever play for the Pronghorns, did see his run of 11 straight double-doubles snapped, grabbing nine boards. Morgan Duce and Logan Reiter each hit double digits with 19 and 18 points.
Waldner walks away as the Pronghorns all-time leader in rebounds with 872 and moved in to fifth on the ‘Horns all-time scoring list with 1139 points. Thijin Moses led the way for the Dinos with a double-double, scoring 21 points and adding 13 rebounds. Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson and Jasdeep Gill each contributed 19.
In a tale of two quarters, the ‘Horns sprinted out to a 17-5 lead, starting the game scorching hot and carried that momentum to a 27-16 lead after ten minutes, only to see Dinos drop 29 second quarter points to race all the way back to a 45-41 lead at the break. Thijin Moses and Jasdeep Gill were big reasons for the Dinos comeback after a shaky start, combining for six three pointers in the half.
After shooting the ball at the opposite ends of spectrum to start the game, the percentages evened out as did the scores; the ‘Horns hit on 45.4% from the floor in the half after starting the game 9 for 14, while the Dinos reversed their opening cold start and finished the first twenty minutes 44% after only hitting one for their first six attempts.
While the pace slowed after halftime, the ebbs and flows carried over into the third, with the ‘Horns finally retaking the lead with just less than three minutes remaining in the quarter off a Reiter Jumper. Carrying a six point lead into the fourth quarter, the Horns attempted to put the lead out of reach, pushing the lead to 15 by the midpoint of the fourth. Having to resort to fouling down the stretch, the Dinos were not able to surmount a late comeback.
