Lethbridge – After finally putting an end to a 14 game winless streak last weekend, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s hockey team will wrap up the 2012-13 season this weekend hosting the nationally sixth ranked Saskatchewan Huskies (17-8-1).
Between scoring woes, injuries and defensive lapses, the 2012-13 season will be one the Pronghorns would like to forget. But after earning three points last weekend versus the Mount Royal Cougars, the ‘Horns have a chance to finish the season strong and build some momentum for next year. Every player on the ‘Horns roster is eligible to return next season.
Cass Mappin has continued to have the hot hand for the ‘Horns scoring five goals in his last six games and is now tied with Chase Schaber for the team lead with eight goals. Freshman David McMullen had his best offensive weekend versus the Mount Royal Cougars, picking up five points in the two games.
The Huskies have already guaranteed a spot in the CIS Championship tournament as the hosts, but would like to go through the front door and repeat as Canada West champions. With two games to play, the Huskies are still in a battle for second place and the much coveted first round bye in the Canada West playoffs. The Manitoba Bisons currently lead the Huskies by a single point for second spot and will travel to Regina for their final two regular season games.
Offensively, the Huskies are led by the tandem of Kyle Bortis and Brennan Bosch. Bortis is third in the conference with 10 goals and 21 assists, while Bosch leads the Huskies in goals with 12.
In their earlier match-up, the Huskies swept the ‘Horns in Saskatoon with 4-3 and 9-4 wins.
Puck drops both Friday and Saturday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena at 7:00pm and both games will be webcast on
