Lethbridge – After trailing by as many as 13 points past the mid-point of the third quarter, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's basketball team rallied with 32 fourth quarter points to hand the third ranked Alberta Golden Bears their second loss of the year with a 98-88 win.

'Horns forward Brandon Brine led all scorers with 32 points before fouling out with two minutes to play. Alex Fletcher scored 13 of his 20 points in the first half, while Logan Reiter chipped in with 13 for the 'Horns.

A trio of Bears, Youssef Ouahrig, Jordan Baker and Sahr Saffa each notched 14 points in a losing cause. Joel Friesen picked up 13 points and Czar Robotham had 11 points.

With the 'Horns trying to test their mettle versus the top team in the conference in the Bears, neither team found much of a rhythm in the first quarter and the Bears held a 16-15 lead after the opening frame.

While the first quarter was a plodding affair, the second was the exact opposite, highlighted by an impromptu three point shooting contest, with 'Horns senior guard Fletcher, and a pair of Bears in Ouahrig and Robotham going shot for shot. Fletcher hit all three of his attempts, while Ouahrig hit three of his own in the quarter and Robotham hit a pair, including a buzzer beater to give Alberta a 42-36 lead at the break.

Just as it looked like the Golden Bears were going to take control in the third, building a 13 point lead at 66-53 with just over four minutes to play, the 'Horns began to claw back and the quarter ended with the Bears holding onto a six point lead.

Chipping away from the start of the quarter, Brine's alley-oop dunk with five minutes to play gave the 'Horns an 80-79 lead and spurred the run. Jared Baker, Reiter, Morgan Duce and Brine all hit threes to push the lead to 10 and put the game out of reach for the Bears.

With the win the 'Horns move within one game of the Bears and improve to 10-3, while Alberta drops to 11-2.

The 'Horns and Bears will square off tomorrow night with top spot in the Prairie Division on the line. Tip-off is set to follow the women's game at 7:00pm at the 1st Choice Savings Centre. The game will also be streamed live on http://canadawest.tv.
