Lethbridge – Still in search of their first win of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team (0-6-0) heads out on the road, traveling to the west coast to face the UBC Thunderbirds (2-2-2).
The 'Horns and T-Birds will face off Friday and Saturday night at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at 7:00 Pacific time.
So far this season, the 'Horns have struggled at both ends of the rink, allowing a conference high 34 goals, while scoring the second fewest goals for with only eight in six games, but there were a lot of positives to take away from last Saturday night's game versus the Calgary Dinos.
After losing 5-1 Friday night in Calgary, the 'Horns pushed the CIS seventh ranked Dinos to the brink in a 3-2 loss, one that required the Dinos to score the winner with just over five minutes remaining, while allowing a season low 35 shots against.
Third-year defender Tim Campbell and sophomore Mitch Maxwell lead the 'Horns in scoring with three points apiece. Campbell also leads the team in goals scored with two.
Goaltender Dylan Tait has started three games in a row and holds a 4.72 goals-against-average and a 0.895 save percentage.
For the T-Birds, the 2014-15 season is also a year of transition with former player and assistant coach Tyler Kuntz taking over the program this season and the T-Birds have responded with a mixed bag of results.
The T-Birds opened the season with an impressive split with the defending CIS Champion Alberta Golden Bears before losing three of their last four, however two of the losses were in overtime.
Speciality teams have been a sore spot so far for the Thunderbirds; they are ranked seventh out of eight in Canada West in both power play (6.9%) and penalty killing (72.7%).
Freshman forward Adam Rossignol leads UBC in scoring through six games with three goals and two assists, while Matt Hewitt has started four of the six games in the Thunderbirds crease, earning both victories and sports a 2.49 goals-against-average and a 0.912 save percentage.
The 'Horns will return home next weekend to host the Manitoba Bisons
