Box Score Regina - It was a pair of rookies that propelled the University of Regina men's hockey team past the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday, as Dylen McKinlay scored twice and Erik Benoit also found the back of the net to lead the Cougars to a 3-1 win at The Co-operators Centre.Â
Benoit's marker signified his first career Canada West goal. Tyler Giebel and Mark Schneider collected assists on the evening.

McKinlay's first of the night came on the powerplay in the first period, as he forced a turnover and beat Warren Shymko for the unassisted marker.

Lethbridge tied things up with just over 30 seconds left in the period, as Ryon Moser took a feed from Brock Hirsche and converted on his third of the campaign.

Benoit's goal came near the end of the second period. Giebel assisted on the goal, as the two Cougar rookies teamed up to put the Cougars back in the lead.

McKinlay added an insurance marker in the third period with his second special teams goal of the game. While the Cougars were killing off a penalty, Schneider gathered a loose puck and fed McKinlay who broke in and beat Shymko for his second of the night, securing the win for the Cougars.

Regina was dinged with eight penalties on the night, while Lethbridge was called for just four.

McKinlay registered five shots on net in the win, while Benoit notched four of his own.

Mitch Kilgore won his third consecutive start for the Cougars, stopping 22 shots in the win. Shymko made 27 saves between the pipes for Lethbridge.

Regina moves to 5-11-1 with the win while Lethbridge drops to 3-14.

The two teams will do battle again on Saturday afternoon, with face off scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at The Co-operators Centre.
