Lethbridge - The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, riding a three game win streak, welcomed the University of Regina Cougars for second game of a weekend series. The Horns, having bested the Cougars 5-3 the night prior, were unable to complete the weekend sweep, dropping a 4-1 decision.

The Cougars line of Ian McNulty, Dylen McKinley and Sanfred King proved to be a huge thorn in the Horns' side combining for a total of nine points, including two goals by McNulty.  King and Troy Hunter scored the other two goals.

Tim Campbell scored the lone Pronghorn goal.

The Cougars opened the scoring at 7:11 of the first period courtesy of McNulty. A defensive breakdown by the 'Horns resulted in a cross-ice pass from Brody Luhning to a wide open McNulty on the doorstep, who tapped it passed Dylan Tait to put the Cougars up 1-0 early.

The Cougars added their second goal at 10:25 of the opening frame with McNulty picking up his second goal of the game. Dylan McKinley's seeing-eye pass into the high slot found McNulty who walked in and fired a wrist shot low blocker passed a sprawling Tait.

McNulty had a pair of glorious chances to pick up an impressive first period hat trick but was denied twice by highlight reel saves by Horns goalie Dylan Tait. With Tait seemingly down and out, McNulty thought he had an easy tap-in but the former Lethbridge Hurricane netminder got his paddle down on the goal line to keep the puck out.  McNulty stuck with the rebound but was again stoned by Tait, this time with his glove.

The Horns best chance of the period came with less than a minute remaining as leading scorer Brandon Clowes was sent in alone on a breakaway. Clowes was able to deke out Cougars goalie Mitch Kilgore but rang the puck off the short-side post.

At the end of the first period, the Cougars outshot the Horns by a commanding 16-3 margin and more importantly, a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard.

Early in the second period, the line of McNulty, McKinley and King struck again. This time King picked up the goal, his first of the season. The goal would chase Dylan Tait from the game, with Warren Shymko replacing him.

Changing goalies appeared to give the Horns a spark as they closed the gap to 3-1 at 6:04 of the middle frame. Deep in the Cougars zone, Daniel Fainman won a face-off back to pointman David McMullen who fed the puck across to his defense partner Tim Campbell whose slap shot from the point beat Kilgore.

With just over four minutes to play in the second period Brandon Clowes had his second breakaway of the game courtesy of a brilliant tape-to-tape pass from 'Horns goalie Warren Shymko. Clowes was denied by the glove of Kilgore to preserve the two-goal lead.

Riding the momentum of Kilgore's save, the Cougars regained their three goal lead less than a minute later. With the puck pinballing in the slot, Troy Hunter whacked the puck loose and beat Shymko low blocker side.

The Cougars outshot the 'Horns 12-10 in the second frame and held a 4-1 lead heading into the third.

The third period proved to be a stalemate with neither team able to find the back of the net. The Cougars kept the Horns goalies busy during the final frame, outshooting the 'Horns by a 22-10 margin.

The victory improves the Cougars record to 2-10-0 on the year while the Horns slip to 3-9-0. The next action for the Horns is Friday night as they host the Mount Royal Cougars for the front end of a home and home.

Puck drop is set for 7:00pm at Nicholas Sheran. The Cougars will face provincial rival Saskatchewan Huskies next weekend in a home-and-home series.
