Box Score
Calgary – The Mount Royal Cougars lost to the Lethbridge Proghorns 6-5 in double overtime, and now have left their playoff fate to the final game of the season. Brock Hirsche and Tim Campbell led the way for Lethbridge as they both picked up a goal and an assist in the game.  Tyler Fiddler led the Cougars with two goals and an assist.

Early on in the first period, Mount Royal ran into penalty trouble. Matthew Brown took a bad offensive zone hooking penalty behind the Lethbridge net.  On the ensuing power play, Ryan Moser took a nice back door pass from Mitch Maxwell, and potted the first goal of the game.

Less than 30 seconds after, Mount Royal responded with an even strength goal. Matt Strong wired a shot from the point that deflected onto the stick of Justin Kirsch for the easy put away goal. With the game tied, both teams moved the puck quickly, and had a lot of scoring chances.

Later in the period on the penalty kill, Tyler Fiddler was able to take the puck up the ice and blow past all the Lethbridge players and score a beautiful goal on a breakaway. Again on the power play, Lethbridge tied the game up at 2. Cason Machacek ripped a shot from the point, and Daniel Iwanski deflected it in.

Later in the period, Billy Marshall restored the lead for the Cougars as he walked into the zone and fired a wrist shot past Dylan Tait. Tyler Fiddler would add another to extend the Cougar's lead to two going into the first intermission.

To start the second period, Lethbridge really locked it down defensively and forced Mount Royal to take a lot of their shots from the outside. Tim Campbell was able to bring the Pronghorns back to within one when he fired a shot right through an unscreened Dalyn Flette. Then a Mount Royal defensive miscue gave the Pronghorns a two on one, and a nice one-time goal for Brock Hirsche tying the game at four. Close to the end of the second, Cody Cartier added a nice power play goal to move the Cougars back in front before the break.

In the third period Dylan Tait came up big for the Pronghorns. After an early third period goal by Brent Henke to tie the game, Mount Royal was on the hunt to break the deadlock again. Tait held strong and the Cougars could not find a way past him.

Midway through the period Tyler Fiddler was awarded a penalty shot, but he could not get it past Tait to break the deadlock.

The deadlock carried on into overtime, and Mount Royal was given a golden opportunity to win the game with a power play. Again the Cougars could not find a way to beat Tait and the game moved into double overtime. Near the end of a very long shift for the Cougars, David McMullen took the puck end-to-end and skated around all the Cougars players and roofed the puck over the shoulder of Dalyn Flette ending the game in spectacular fashion.

Mount Royal now holds a record of 11-13-3. The Pronghorns are now 3-21-3.

These two teams will conclude the home-and-home series tomorrow night in Lethbridge. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm. Mount Royal will need at least one point to clinch a playoff spot. If Mount Royal wins, and Manitoba loses, the Cougars will have home-ice advantage in the playoffs.
