Lethbridge –Propelled by three power play goals and a perfect six-for-six on the penalty kill the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns completed the weekend sweep of the Mount Royal Cougars with a 4-2 victory, Saturday night, at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

Cass Mappin, Daniel Fainmann, Hayden Rintoul, and Guillaume Naud each netted individual markers for Lethbridge. Tyler Fiddler and Justin Kirsch scored for Mount Royal.

Alex Sirard got the start for the Pronghorns and turned aside all but 2 of the 41 he faced , while Cam Lanigan started in net for Mount Royal and stopped 21 of the 25 he faced.

Suiting up for their final game of the 2013-2104 regular season, and fresh off a double-overtime thriller last night in Calgary, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns played host to the Mount Royal Cougars in the second of a two-game home-and-home series, Saturday night, in Lethbridge.

Mount Royal looked strong, offensively, in the opening minutes of play, including two great scoring chances by Eric Galbraith and Jeremy Burns. Tyler Fiddler's great backhand effort was also turned aside by Sirard, whose quick cross-crease save helped keep the game scoreless.

Lethbridge's Tim Campbell unloaded a hard blast from just inside the blue line but his effort was confidently gloved down by Lanigan.

Mappin put the Horns on the board first, at 7:27. Dangling wide around the Cougars' defender and pushing the puck through his skates, Mappin grabbed the puck and snuck his shot short-side top shelf.

Cody Cartier tried to answer back, moments later, for Mount Royal but Sirard shut the door on the second -year forward who tried to sneak the puck over the line.
Shots through one period favoured the Cougars, 15-9.

Fainmann doubled-up the Horns lead with a power play goal, less than five minutes into the second, from Rintoul and McMullen, sneaking a hard shot under Lanigan's arm and into the net.

Sirard diffused another good scoring chance by the Cougars, this time by Jewitt, who was unable to convert from in front of the crease.

Nearing the midway mark of the second, Fiddler took a hard pass from Gannon and quickly broke out of the defensive zone with speed. All alone against Sirard, he wasted no time and rifled a wrister high glove-side to cut the lead in half.

After Mappin's backhand effort failed to beat Lanigan, Naud stepped in and finished it, extending his team's lead to 3-1.

It took Mount Royal less than fifteen seconds to respond, however, as Kirsch quickly closed the gap to one, once again, with his fifth marker of the season.
Hayden Rintoul added a fourth goal for Lethbridge at 14:10, his third of the season, from Henke and Hirsche.

With these back-to-back wins, the Horns conclude the 2013-14 season with a 4-21-3 record while Mount Royal falls to 11-14-3. While the 'Horns season is over, Mount Royal will travel to Winnipeg to face the Manitoba Bisons in a best two of three quarterfinal series next weekend.
