‘Horns head out on the road for a pair

Lethbridge – Following a season opening loss to the defending CIS Champion Alberta Pandas, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's rugby team (0-1) heads out on the road for a pair of games on the West Coast.
 
The 'Horns face the UBC Thunderbirds (1-0) Friday afternoon and then conclude the trip with a match-up with the Victoria Vikes (0-1). Kick-offs are scheduled for 4:00pm and 11:30 am PST respectively.
 
After missing all of last season due to injury, Sarah Gordon made a triumphant return to the 'Horns line up, leading the team in their 24-13 loss to the Alberta Pandas with a try and a penalty goal. Kara Loewen scored the other try in the 'Horns loss.
 
The 'Horns first opponent this weekend, UBC Thunderbirds opened the season with a shocking win over the consensus pick to win Canada West this season, Calgary Dinos, 24-19.
 
Entering the opening weekend, the 2013 Canada West runner-up Dinos were ranked eighth in the CIS but could not recover from a 17-0 run by the T-Birds in the early going of the second half.
 
The 'Horns have won 11 consecutive games versus the UBC Thunderbirds; the T-Birds last beat the 'Horns, October 20, 2006, 10-7 during the round robin portion of the Canada West tournament. The Horns went on the beat the Thunderbirds during the Canada West Championship game that year to claim the programs first Canada West title.
 
Sunday, the 'Horns face the Vikes, who opened the season with a 26-8 loss versus the Dinos last Sunday.
 
Last season, the Vikes beat the 'Horns 18-15 during the opening weekend of the season.  It was the first time the Vikes had beaten the 'Horns in over a decades.
 
The 'Horns return home next week to host the Calgary Dinos Thursday night.
