Box Score
Lethbridge – Led by a career high 36 points from senior forward Tommy Nixon, the UBC Thunderbirds rolled into in the Lethbridge and handed the Lethbridge Pronghorns a 92-77 loss. The game was both teams first contest following the winter break.

Nixon's performance not only set a career high but extremely efficient, as he shot 11 for 13 from the field, including 3 for 4 from behind the arc. He also hit 11 of his 14 free throws. Nixon finished off his exceptional night with a double-double as well, grabbing 11 rebounds.

Tonner Jackson and Conor Morgan chipped in with 13 and 12 respectively for the T-Birds.

For the Pronghorns, they found themselves in foul trouble and struggled with their offensive flow all night. The 'Horns were led by Robbie Olsen who scored a team high 21 points, while his backcourt counterpart Jared Baker picked up 19 points. 'Horns leading scorer during the first semester Brandon Brine contributed with a 14 point performance.

Despite both teams seeing non-conference action during the semester break, the opening minutes of the game were sluggish and after three minutes the game was knotted at four. Despite both teams' willingness to run, neither team could find much offensive rhythm. When the dust settled after 10 minutes the T-Birds held a one point lead 17-16 but the stats were not kind for either team, except for Nixon.

Nixon was 3-3 from the floor with the rest of his T-Bird teammates shooting 3 for 13. The 'Horns in that opening quarter were a dismal 4 for 16 from the field but was able to keep the game close by taking care of the ball and hitting all but one of their eight free throws. The 'Horns only turned the ball over four times in the opening half.

The Tommy Nixon Show continued in the second, with UBC expanding their lead eight at the break, 44-36. Nixon did not miss a shot in the entire half, finishing with 21 points and a perfect 6 for 6 from the floor and 8 for 8 from the charity stripe.

The Pronghorns improved their shooting in the second but they could not keep pace with UBC. As a team they were 7 for 17 in the quarter but still lack an answer at the defensive end.

Still feeling it after the break, Nixon opened the third with another three pointer, and that seemed to kick-start the rest of the T-Birds, as they poured in 32 third quarter points to take a strangle hold of the game and built a 21 point lead (76-55) at the end of third period.

UBC cruised through the fourth quarter, never allowing the Pronghorns to get closer than 13 points before settling for a 15 point win, their third consecutive conference win. The win moves the Thunderbird to with one the 500 mark at 4-5 after opening the season 1-5. The loss marks the fourth consecutive conference loss for the 'Horns and drops their record to 5-6.

The 'Horns will get a chance to redeem themselves tomorrow night against the T-Birds at the 1st Choice Savings Centre, Tip is set for 7:00pm. The game will also be webcast on http://canadawest.tv.
