Box Score Lethbridge – A Tim Campbell goal with only 19 seconds remaining in the second overtime lifted the Lethbridge Pronghorns to a 3-2 win over the Alberta Golden Bears to earn a weekend split to open the Canada West season.

Campbell scored a power play goal in the second period and Ryon Moser scored the other Pronghorn goal.  Kruise Reddick and James Dobrowolski replied for the Bears.

'Horns goaltender Dylan Tait was the story of the game for the 'Horns making 51 saves on the night, many of the spectacular variety. At the other end of the ice Luke Siemens stopped 28 of 31 shots he faced.

"Our guys proved a lot tonight, not just what just what kind of team they are but what kind of people they are," said head coach Spiros Anastas. "They know their job is far from complete and we have a lot of work to do to get better, but the culture shift is incredible."

"Dylan Tait is the heart of this shift and he has earned every bit of it," Anastas continued. "We're excited to keep growing."

The Bears stormed out of the gates with a quick start, outshooting the 'Horns 7-1 in the early going, but 'Horns goaltender Dylan Tait was sharp. His best save came off the stick of Kruise Reddick. Stephane Legault found Reddick coming into the zone late, but Tait robbed Reddick with a spectacular glove save.

Newcomer Sam McKechnie had the best 'Horns chance with just under three minutes remaining in the opening frame. McKechnie drove across the Bears net but Bears goalie Luke Siemens tracked McKechnie across to make the save.

Unlike last night, the first would not end scoreless, Reddick jumped on a loose puck in the 'Horns crease and poked home his first of the season to give the Bears the 1-0 lead.

The 'Horns managed to close the gap on the shot clock but the period ended with the Bears outshooting the 'Horns 13-8.

Early in the second, the 'Horns nearly knotted the game at one, but Siemen made a stellar save back door on a wide open Ryon Moser.

The save proved large as, Dobrowolski doubled the Bears lead a short time later. Tait made the first save but Dobrowolski jumped on a rebound and made no mistake.

After being shutout in last night's game, the 'Horns would finally hit the scoresheet 13 minutes into the period. Ryon Moser finished off a slick passing play with a tap in to cut the Bears lead in half.

On a power play, defenceman Tim Campbell brought the 'Horns level, Siemen got a piece of Campbell's one timer from the point but didn't get enough.

If it wasn't for Tait, the Bears would have regained the lead before the period was out. Breaking in on a three-on-one, Tait sprawled across to rob Levko Koper twice, once with the pad and snagged the rebound with his glove.

Nothing was settled in the third period and over time was needed. The Bears held a heavy advantage in the shot department in the third, 17 to 5 but Tait had an answer for every Bears chance.

Bears had the first quality chance in the first overtime but Tait once again was able to foil Koper's chance in close. Nothing was decided four-on-four.

With a minute left in the second overtime, Stephane Legault broke in alone looking to end the game but Tait sprawled with his stick to keep the game going and it paid off.

With 19 seconds, the puck was cleared from 'Horns end, with Campbell racing towards the puck, Siemens came out of the crease to play it to safety but Campbell intercepted the pass and had an wide open net waiting for him to give the 'Horns the win.

The 'Horns head out on the road next weekend traveling to Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies, while the Bears will also in Saskatchewan to face the Regina Cougars.
