Lethbridge – For the second week in a row the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team will face a southern Alberta rival in a home-and-home series; this week the Mount Royal Cougars will be the opponent.
The front half of the home-and-home will go in Calgary Friday before the 'Horns return home Saturday to host the Cougars on Halloween night. Puck drops both nights at 7:00pm.
After a solid opening weekend, the 'Horns (1-4-1) have lost four straight games and were swept last weekend by the Calgary Dinos. Despite the early struggles in the win column, the 'Horns have been close in all but one of their losses this season with an overtime loss, a one-goal loss, and a 2-0 loss to the defending CIS Champion with an empty netter.
Through three weeks of the conference schedule the 'Horns have scored the second fewest goals in Canada West with only 13 goals in six games. Brandon Clowes leads the 'Horns with three goals and two assists and Tim Campbell has scored three goals, including an overtime winner.
After going with Dylan Tait in the crease the first four games, Damien Kelto got his first start of the season last Friday and came in relief of Tait last Saturday. In five appearances this season, Tait holds a 3.04 goals-against average and a 0.923 save percentage. Ketlo has a 3.08 goals against average and a 0.912 save percentage.
Coming off a three-point weekend against the defending CIS Champion Golden Bears, the Cougars (3-2-1) find themselves in fourth place in the conference and have been the second stingiest team in Canada West through six games. The Cougars have only allowed 12 goals against in six games, which is the second fewest in Canada West.
Freshman goaltender Colin Cooper has been nothing short of spectacular, being credited with all three of the Cougar wins, and sports a sparkling 1.50 goals-against average along with a 0.945 save percentage.
Offensively, the Cougars are led by Matt Brown and Tyler Fiddler. Brown is tied for second in the conference with eight points and is second in goals with five. Fiddler also has eight points, six of which are assists.
Next weekend, the 'Horns host the UBC Thunderbirds Saturday and Sunday. Game times next weekend are Saturday at 7:00pm and Sunday at 1:00pm.
