VICTORIA – Playing their final regular season game, the Lethbridge Pronghorns fell behind early and couldn't recover, losing 48-10 to the defending Canada West Champion Victoria Vikes.
 
The loss drops the 'Horns to 0-4 on the season and as host of the Canada West Championships this coming week, the 'Horns will face the undefeated Calgary Dinos in the first semi-final Friday at 1:00pm.
 
The Vikes finish the season 3-1 behind only the undefeated Dinos. The win ensures that the Vikes will play the University of Alberta, who they beat earlier this season, in the second semi-final
 
Carolyn McKee led Lethbridge with a pair of tries in a strong performance. Gabriele Senft and Jess Neilson paced the Vikes with a pair of tries
 
Victoria opened and closed out the game with a strong effort, getting a try from Sya Trafford early before adding two more from Gurpreet Dhaliwal and Neilson. Neilson hit the convert on Dhaliwal's try to bring the score to 17-0 at the break.
 
The half saw both teams regroup and come out eager but it would be the Vikes to strike first once again, this time off a try from Angela Thompson. Fifth-year Vike Chelsea Minter chimed in soon after with a hustle try, breaking through a group of Pronghorns to get over the line.
 
McKee picked up her first of two to get the 'Horns on the board but still trailed
 
Neilson made a tough kick after on Minter's try but her next convert would be much easier, after Senft ran it right up the middle for her second try of the night. McKee followed with a second dive into the try zone to help Lethbridge close out strong.
 
Lethbridge will host the Canada West Championships, starting Friday October 21^st. Semi-finals are scheduled for 1 and 3:00 pm at the University Community Stadium. The Bronze medal game is scheduled for 11:00am and the Gold medal game will follow at 3:00pm. All of the games will be streamed on www.canadawest.tv.
