Lethbridge – Coming off a weekend spilt with the third ranked Alberta Golden Bears, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team will conclude the 2016 portion of the Canada West schedule this weekend on the road, travelling to Regina to take on the Regina Cougars.

Puck drop is slated in Regina at the Co-Operators Centre Friday night at 7:00pm and Saturday at 3:00pm. Both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.

Last weekend, the Pronghorn (6-5-3) upended the Bears 3-2 in overtime, before falling 5-0 but in their last six games, the 'Horns are 4-1-1 and are only three points out of fourth place.

One of the keys to the 'Horns success recently has been the play of the penalty killing unit. Including last weekend, the 'Horns penalty killers have successfully killed off 22 of the last 24 opponent's power plays and sit second in the conference (87.5%).

On a hot streak of late with eight points in his last four games, Mitch Maxwell moved into a tie on the Pronghorns scoring list with Justin Valentino with 12 points. Valentino is second in Canada West goal scoring with 10 goals and Maxwell leads Canada West in assists with 11.

Captain Tim Campbell is second among Canada West defencemen in scoring with five goals and six assists.

Freshman Garret Hughson has started six straight games in the 'Horns crease and sports a 3.01 goals-against-average and a 0.912 save percentage.

The Cougars (3-10-1) enter the weekend on a two game losing streak, after being swept by the Calgary Dinos in Calgary last weekend. The Cougars fell 5-4 in overtime and 6-1.

Rookie forward Tristan Frei leads the Cougars in scoring with 12 points, while JJ Coleshaw sits second with four goals and five assists.

In the crease, Andy Desautels has start 10 of the Cougars 14 games and holds a 3.80 goals-against-average.

To open the 2016-17 Canada West campaign, the Pronghorns and Cougars split their series in Lethbridge with the Cougars winning opening night 2-1 before the 'Horns clipped the Cougars 4-2.

The Pronghorns will return to conference action in the New Year with a home-and-home series with the Calgary Dinos January 6th and 7th. The series will open in Calgary with the back half going in Lethbridge Saturday night.
