Lethbridge – The Lethbridge Pronghorn women's rugby team (0-1-0) returns to action this Sunday, traveling to Calgary to face the Calgary Dinos Sunday.
The 'Horns and Dinos will take to the pitch on Field #7 on University of Calgary Campus. Kick-off is set for 4:00PM.
Sunday's match will mark the first time the two teams will square off since the 'Horns upset the previously undefeated Dinos in last year's Canada West semi-final. The 'Horns beat the Dinos 35-25 and that victory secured the 'Horns place in the CIS women's rugby championship.
Two weeks ago, the 'Horns opened the Canada West season with a disappointing 39-33 loss to the Alberta Pandas. With just under three minutes remaining in that game, the 'Horns held a 33-15 lead but could not hold on as the Pandas roared back for the win.
Hailey Driscoll scored two tries in the loss to the Pandas to lead the scoring, while first-year Pronghorn Abby Neudorf hit four converts.
The Dinos (2-0-0) kicked off their Canada West campaign last weekend on the road, winning both games in BC and now sit atop the Canada West standings.
In their first game, the Dinos beat the Canada West coaches' poll consensus top pick, the Victoria Vikes 29-20 and then handily beat the UBC Thunderbirds 36-10.
Elysa Sandron leads the conference in scoring after scoring two tries and kicking five converts and a penalty goal last weekend for 23 points. Temitope Ogunjimi leads the team in tries after two games with three.
The 'Horns will host the Canada West Championships, October 21
st and 23
rd at the University Community Stadium.
