Pronghorns and Huskies square off in battle for playoff positioning

Lethbridge – For the second consecutive week, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's basketball team hits the home floor at the 1st Choice Savings Centre and host the Saskatchewan Huskies in a clash with postseason implications on the line.

The 'Horns and Huskies hit the hardwood, Friday night at 8:00pm and Saturday at 7:00pm. Both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.

Opening the second semester of conference action last week, the Pronghorns (8-4) held home court, sweeping the UNBC Timberwolves and enter the weekend on a four game conference winning streak. The two wins allowed the 'Horns to keep pace with the Winnipeg Wesmen for a tie for fourth place in the standings.

Entering their second last home weekend of the season, the Pronghorns are ranked 7th defensively in Canada West allowing 78 points per game but held UNBC under that total both games last weekend. At the other end of the floor, the 'Horns are ranked 10th, scoring 78.1 points per game this season.

Individually, four Pronghorns have accounted for the bulk of the team's offence this season with Elliott Sentance leading the team win scoring with 19.6 points a night, which ranks him third in Canada West scoring. Point guard Dejon Burdeaux sits second on the 'Horns with 15.4 points and leads the conference in steals, averaging 3.7 a night. He is also fifth in Canada West in assist per game with 4.5. Zac Overwater and Mike Pierzchala average 13.2 and 12.1 points respectively to round out the 'Horns top scorers.

The Huskies (6-4) opened the second semester with an impressive win last Friday night in Saskatoon, handing the then second ranked UBC Thunderbirds their first loss of the season, 95-78. The T-Bird rebounded the next night to beat the Huskies, 83-74.

Statistically the Huskies are the top ranked defensive team in Canada West, allowing 69.2 points against per game. The also come to Lethbridge with the eighth ranked offence, scoring at a 79 points per game rate.

Five Huskies lead the way offensively, Shane Osayande sits fifth on the Canada West scoring list, averaging 19 points, while also leading the conference in rebounding with 11 rebounds a night. Matt Forbes sits second with 12 points per game and Jaylan Morgan and Chan De Ciman are averaging 11.5 and 11.1 points per game.

The Pronghorns head out on the road next weekend, travelling to Victoria to face the Vikes for a pair of games before returning home for their final home regular season games the following weekend, hosting the UBCO Heat.
