Lethbridge - The Lethbridge Pronghorn men's basketball team rings in the New Year this coming weekend, returning to Canada West action hosting the UNBC Timberwolves for a pair of games at the 1
st Choice Savings Centre.
The 'Horns and Timberwolves hit the hardwood Friday night at 8:00pm and Saturday night at 7:00pm. Both games will also be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
While the 'Horns haven't played a Canada West game since the first week of December, they did play two non-conference games during the semester break, losing 84-76 on the road to Carroll College in Montana, before beating Montana State Northern 80-65 at home on December 28
th.
At the midpoint of the season, the 'Horns sit in a tie for fourth place in Canada West with a 6-4 record and will play six of their next eight games at home.
Entering the second half of the season, the 'Horns have the ninth ranked offence in Canada West averaging 77.9 points per game, while defensively the 'Horns are slotted 11
th allowing 80.2 points per.
Individually, Elliott Sentence leads the 'Horns in scoring and sits fifth in the conference, averaging 19.5 points per game in his first 10 games as a Pronghorn. Point guard Dejon Burdeaux sits second with 14.1 points per game, while also leading the conference in steals with 39 and is second in Canada West in assists, averaging 4.8 a night.
The 'Horns made one addition at the semester break, adding former Victoria Vike and Winnipeg product Mahmoud Sesey. The 6'3" guard last played with the Vikes during the 2014-15 season.
This week's opponent, UNBC (4-6) also played two games during the semester break, losing 79-70 to Memorial but beat UQAM 86-80. In their last conference action, the Timberwolves were swept by Thompson Rivers.
Statistically, the Timberwolves are ranked 15
th offensively (72.7 ppg) and 10
th defensively (79.9 ppg).
Individually, UNBC is led by Rhys Elliot, who averages 17.7 points per game and Marcus MacKay sits second with 13.4 points a night.
