"We have a lot of respect for the Huskies and what they're capable of, but we know we play well in their building," said head coach Spiros Anastas. "We're confident that it will be a good hard fought series."
"Similar to last week, they'll pounce on opportunities, so we need to ensure that we play within our game and manage the puck for 60 minutes."
In a home-and-home series with the Calgary Dinos, the Pronghorns (1-1-0) dropped the opening game 4-1 in Calgary before rebounding to a 2-1 double overtime victory Saturday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
Fifth-year Captain Mitch Maxwell led the way offensively, scoring once in each game, including the double overtime winner on Saturday night. Freshman defenceman Dallas Valentine picked up two assists in his first weekend as a Pronghorn and Justin Valentino, who lead the Pronghorns last season with 16 goals, picked up a goal and an assist.
In the crease, Freshman Ty Edmonds got his first career start Friday night, stopping 30 of 34 Dinos shots in a loss, while second-year keeper Garret Hughson picked up the win Saturday night, coming within 52-seconds of a shutout and made 37 saves.
The Huskies (2-0-0) who were Canada West runner-up and U SPORTS silver medalists last year, kicked off the new season with two convincing victories over the Regina Cougars last weekend. The Huskies opened up with an 8-2 win in Regina and then shutout the Cougars 6-0 in Saskatoon.
Relying on a balanced attack, the Huskies had 12 different goal scorers last weekend, but senior forward Josh Roach led the way with two goals and three assists in the two games.
Reigning two-time U SPORTS goalie of the year Jordan Cooke allowed two goals in his season debut Friday night, while newcomer Taran Kozun made 24 saves to earn a shutout in his first Canada West start.
