Pronghorns host MRU in front half of home-and-home

Lethbridge – Looking to get back in the win column, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team will host the Mount Royal Cougars in the first game of a home-and-home series Friday night.
 
Puck drops Friday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena at 7:00pm with the back half of the home-and-home series going Saturday night in Calgary at the Flames Community Arena at 6:00pm. Both games will be streamed live on http://canadawest.yaretv.com/.
 
This weekend is the first meeting between the Pronghorns and Cougars this season. Last year, the two team's spilt the four game series. The Pronghorns swept their first weekend set in November, while the Cougars returned the favor last January.
 
Look at both teams:

Last weekend, the Pronghorns (1-2-1) dropped both games on the road to the U SPORTS third ranked Saskatchewan, but earned a point in a 4-3 overtime loss Friday night.
 
With eight goals scored in four games, the Pronghorns have scored the fewest goals in Canada West but have allowed the fourth fewest thus far, allowing 14 goals against. With specialty teams, the Pronghorns hold the 7th ranked power play at 10.5% and 5th ranked penalty killing at 73.3%.
 
The Cougars (1-2-1) went to a shootout both games last weekend against the Regina Cougars, losing 7-6 Friday night before winning 5-4 the next night. Through four games, the Cougars have allowed the second most goals against (22) and have scored 11 times but 10 of those goals were scored in two games last weekend. Speciality teams are ranked at the bottom in the conference in both categories (PP 9.1%, PK 59.1%)
 
Players to watch:
 
Pronghorn senior forward Mitch Maxwell sits tied for fourth in Canada West scoring with four goals and two assists, while Justin Valentino is second in team scoring with one goal and three assists.
 
After splitting the opening weekend in the Pronghorns crease, second-year goaltender Garret Hughson started both games and sports a 3.10 goals against-average and a 0.917 save percentage, which is fifth best in Canada West.

Cougar freshman Brad Kennedy is tied for second in Canada West goal scoring with four, but has yet to record an assist. Former Lethbridge Hurricane Jamal Watson sits second in Cougar scoring with a goal and three assists.
 
In the crease, the Cougars have split time with Colin Cooper and Wyatt Hoflin. Cooper has a 4.67 goals-against average, while Hoflin's is second worst in Canada West at 5.38.
 
Next Up for the Pronghorns:
 
The Pronghorns will host their first two game series of the season next weekend, hosting the UBC Thunderbirds, Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
