Lethbridge – Entering the weekend as one of only two undefeated teams in Canada West, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's basketball team heads east to Regina to face an equally hot Regina Cougars squad for a pair of games.

The Pronghorns and Cougars will hit the hardwood at 8:00pm Central Time both Friday and Saturday night. Both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.

"Regina is an incredibly talented and well coached team, we are going to have to play our best to beat them this weekend," said Pronghorn head coach Mike Hansen. "To win in Regina, we need to control the tempo and find our flow."

"Our guys have been incredibly resilient and at 9-2 (including non-conference games) on the road they feel confident in their ability to win this weekend."

This will be the first Canada West match-up between the Pronghorns and Cougars in two seasons but the Pronghorns beat the Cougars in a non-conference game last year. During the 2015-16 season, the Pronghorns and Cougars split their conference games in Lethbridge.

A look at the teams

The Pronghorns moved to 8-0 on the season for only the second time in the programs history following two wins in Kamloops versus the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

Even though they scored a season low 82 points last Saturday, the Pronghorns still hold the second ranked offence in Canada West, averaging 95.8 points per night. Defensively the team sits 11th in Canada West, surrendering 82.3 points per game.

The Pronghorns have made the most free throws in Canada West with 159 and sit second in free throw percentage at 76.1%.

After losing their first conference game of the season, Regina (5-1) has rattled off five straight wins, including a road sweep of the UNBC Timberwolves last weekend in Prince George.

Statistically, the Cougars enter the weekend ranked fifth in both team offence and defence. Through six games Regina is averaging 85.2 points for per game, while allowing 75.8 points against.

Players to watch:

Senior guard Dejon Burdeaux continues to be Mr. Everything for the Pronghorns. Burdeaux sits third in Canada West scoring, averaging 22.8 points per game, while leading the team in rebounding with 8.1 per game and is second in assists with 3.3 per game. He also leads Canada West in steals with 26.

Zac Overwater and Saren Westrop sit second and third on the Pronghorns with 15.9 and 15.6 points respectively, while Kyle Peterson leads the team in assists with 4.9 to go along with his 14.6 points per game.

The Cougars rely on a balanced attack with six players averaging at least 10 points per game, but no one averages more than 14. Brandon Tull leads at 13.8 points, while Shaquille Harris and Shawn Latham are right behind Tull with 13.5 and 13.3 points.

Next weekend will bring a close to the first semester of Canada West action with the Pronghorns returning home to host the Fraser Valley Cascades.
