Lethbridge - Entering the final weekend of the regular season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey is in control of their own destiny as they look to punch their ticket to the post-season for the first time since 2012 hosting the conference's top team and U Sports second ranked Saskatchewan Huskies.
Â
The Pronghorns and Huskies will hit the ice at Nicholas Sheran Arena at 7:00pm both Friday and Saturday night. Both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.
Â
Entering the final two games, the Pronghorns (11-12-3) hold a two point advantage on the UBC Thunderbirds for the final playoff spot and hold the tie break advantage so one Pronghorn win or a UBC loss this week will send the Pronghorns to the playoffs. The Pronghorns also trail the Manitoba Bisons by only three points for fifth place.
Â
The Huskies (19-5-2) have already clinched the number one seed for the playoffs and a bye in the first round and home ice throughout the Canada West playoffs.
Â
In their last action, both teams split their weekend series, the Pronghorns with the Alberta Golden Bears and the Huskies with the Bisons, but the Huskies are 8-2 in their last 10. The Pronghorns have won three of their last four games.
Â
Look at the teams statistically
Â
The Huskies bring to Lethbridge the top defensive team allowing only 56 goals against, 12 fewer than any other team in the conference. The Huskies are also tied for the most goals scored with 97. The Pronghorns have scored the fourth most goals this season with 85 but have allowed the second most against, allowing 94.
Â
On specialty teams, the Huskies hold a slim advantage; The Huskies have the third ranked power play at 22.6% compared to the Pronghorns fifth ranked unit at 17.4%. While shorthanded, the Huskies kill off 86.5% compared to the Pronghorns 81.6%.
Â
Players to watch

With a five point weekend last week, Mitch Maxwell moved into a tie for the Pronghorn scoring lead with Justin Valentino at 27 points. Â
Freshman goaltender Garret Hughson, who is second in the conference in minutes played, had a stellar weekend in Edmonton last weekend, stopping 75 of the 80 shots he faced. Hughson has been in the crease for all of the Pronghorns 11 wins this season.
Â
Logan McVeigh leads the Huskies in scoring with 13 goals and 16 assists, good enough for a tie for second in Canada West scoring. Jesse Forsberg sits second on the Huskies with 11 goals and 16 assists.
Â
Reigning CIS goalie of the year Jordan Cooke leads the conference in minutes played this season with 1456.09, sits second in goals-against-average (1.98) and third in save percentage (0.927).
