Lethbridge – After opening the season with a loss to the defending Canada West Champions, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's rugby team heads to the West Coast to face the sixth ranked Victoria Vikes and UBC Thunderbirds.
The 'Horns take on the Vikes Friday at 5:00pm and then takes on the T-Birds Sunday at 1:00pm.
Looking to test themselves early, the Pronghorns challenged the defending Canada West Champion Dinos early but in the end dropped a 42-15 decision.
Statistically, Sarah Gordon, who took last season off, propelled the Pronghorns with a try, convert and penalty goal to account for 10 of her team's 15 points. Abby Duguid scored the other Pronghorn try.
The Vikes (2-0) have had a dominant start to the 2017 campaign, laying claim to a pair of 82-0 victories over the Alberta Pandas and UBC Thunderbirds. Jess Nelson leads Canada West point totals with 35 in two games. She has two tries, 11 converts and a penalty goal to her name, while Madison Aberg leads the Vikes in tries with five. Emily Belchios and Kara Galbraith have each scored three tries in two games.
UBC (1-1) has split their first two games, opening the 2017 season with the program's first ever win over the Alberta Pandas. Down 19-10 early in the second half, the T-Birds scored the game's final 19 points for the historic win.
Last weekend, the T-Birds ran into the powerful Vikes side, suffering a lopsided defeat.
In the win over the Pandas, Shoshanah Seumanutafa scored three of her team's tries to lead the Thunderbirds in scoring.
The Pronghorns will be off next week and return to action to host the Alberta Pandas on October 14
