LETHBRIDGE – Following their bye week, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's basketball team returns to action looking to solidify their post-season position in a home-and-home series versus the U SPORTS fourth ranked Calgary Dinos.
The Pronghorn host the front half of the home-and-home series Thursday night at the 1
st Choice Savings Centre, tip-off is slated for 8:00pm. The second game goes Saturday night in Calgary. Both games will be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
Thursday night's game will also be youth night, where anyone 17 or under will get free admission to the game.
Last season, the Dinos swept the home-and-home series, beating the Pronghorns 95-71 in Lethbridge and 91-59 at home.
A Look at the Teams:
With only four games remaining in the Canada West Schedule, the Pronghorns (11-5) only need one win to clinch a playoff spot.
In their last action, the Pronghorns split a home series with the UBC Thunderbirds, dropping the first game before rebounding to beat the T-Birds in overtime.
The Pronghorns enter the weekend with the second ranked offense in Canada West, averaging 90.6 points per game and lead the conference in free throws made with 294.
Riding a four game winning streak, the Calgary Dinos (13-3) sit tied for second in the Canada West standings but have the second best RPI, only behind the Alberta Golden Bears.
Statistically, the Dinos are ranked second in the conference defensively, allowing 72.4 points per game and are right behind the Pronghorns offensively, ranked third scoring 86.7 points a game.
Key Players:
Senior guard Dejon Burdeaux is getting close to returning from injuries and the hope is that he will make his return this weekend. Burdeaux is fifth in Canada West scoring average, scoring 21.9 points per game. He also averages 6.8 rebounds and is second in Canada West in steals per game with 3.5.
Coming off a career night, where he set a new school record for points in a game with 49, Zac Overwater averages 17.6 points per game. Overwater leads the Pronghorns in rebounding with 7.3 points, which is tied for 13
th in Canada West.
For the Dinos, fourth-year guard Mambi Diawara has been vital to the Dinos success and sits third in Canada West scoring average with 23.1 points per game. He also leads the Dinos in rebounds with 6.9 per game.
Guard David Kapinga is the only other Dino to average double digits in points the season with 10.6 per game.
