Lethbridge – Coming off a successful first semester, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's basketball team returns to action following the semester break, traveling to Winnipeg to face the Manitoba Bisons.
The Pronghorns and Bisons will hit the hardwood in Winnipeg Friday night at 8:00 PM and Saturday night at 7:00 PM, both Central Time. Both games will also be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
In the last match-up between the Pronghorns and Bisons, both teams won a game in Lethbridge during the 2015-16 season. The Pronghorns won the first game 96-74, before dropping a 102-94 decision in game two.
A Look at the Teams:
The Pronghorns (10-2) were one win shy of setting a new program mark of consecutive wins to start the season, winning their first eight games this season.
Statistically, the Pronghorns hold the second best offence in Canada West scoring 93.3 points per game. The team leads the conference in free throws made per game at 19.3 and steals, swiping the ball 13.4 times a game.
Defensively, the Pronghorns rank 11
th in the conference allowing 82.8 points per game.
The Bisons (8-4) had an up and down opening semester, ripping off a pair of three game winning streaks but also lost three games in a row in November.
Entering this weekend, the Bisons hold the third ranked defence in the conference, allowing only 73.3 points against per game. Offensively, the Bisons sit eighth in Canada West with 81.3 points per game. However, the Bisons lead Canada West in shooting percentage from behind the arc, hitting on 36.9% of their three point attempts.
Players to watch
All five of the Pronghorns starters averaged double digits in points during the first semester. Through the first 12 games, Dejon Burdeaux sits fifth in Canada West scoring with 21.9 points per game. He also averaged 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.1 assists during the first semester.
Zac Overwater sits second on the Pronghorns in scoring with 14.6 points per game, while Saren Westrop and Kyle Peterson average 14.6 and 14.3 points per game respectively.
For the Bisons, the duo of Justus Alleyn and James Wagner account for over 50% of their team's output during the first semester of conference action. Alleyn sits third in Canada West scoring with 22.8 points per game. Wagner averages 20.2 points and leads the Bisons in rebounds with 8.1 per game.
