Coming of a sweep at the hands of the U SPORTS third ranked Saskatchewan Huskies last weekend, the Pronghorns (2-4-0) will play their first home game in nearly a month. The Pronghorns last played at home at the end of September during the opening weekend of the Canada West season.
Last weekend, Pronghorns were shutout both games, dropping 5-0 and 4-0 decisions in Saskatoon.
Through the first three weeks of the conference schedule, specialty teams have been a concern for the Pronghorns being ranked at the bottom in Canada West in both categories. The power play has only scored twice in 21 opportunities.
While shorthanded, the Pronghorns have allowed 10 power play goals against in 24 times a man down.
A trio of Pronghorns are tied for the team lead in points thus far. Freshmen Landon Gross and Jordan Roy are tied with Sam McKechnie with four points. Gross leads the Pronghorns with three goals. McKechnie leads the Pronghorns with three assists, while Roy has two goals and two assists.
The Dinos (3-2-1) enter the weekend on a two game winning streak after handily beating the UBC Thunderbirds in Calgary. The Dinos beat the T-Birds 5-2 and 8-2.
Through six games, the Dinos have scored the most goals in the conference at 27, but that was aided by their 13 goal output last weekend. The Dinos have allowed 19 goals against, which ranks them fourth in Canada West.
Offensively, the Dinos are led by Riley Sheen, who is tied for the conference scoring lead with eight points in six games. He tied for the goal scoring lead with five.
Coming off a six point (3G, 3A) weekend against UBC Dino freshman Bradley Shoonbaert was named the Canada West first star.
