CALGARY- The Lethbridge Pronghorn women's rugby team wasn't able to recover from a 29 point half time deficit and dropped a 41- 17 decision to the Calgary Dinos Sunday afternoon at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.
The two-time defending conference champion Dinos played a strong first half, scoring five first half tries to take control of the first of two games the Pronghorns and Dinos will play this season.
"Full credit to the Dinos in the first half. They played a really solid first half and got up big points. We tried to fight back but just too many mistakes by us," reflected 'Horns Head Coach Neil Langevin. "Missing a bonus point down the stretch might hurt us, but I am proud of the girls and the fight, we came back the last 20 minutes."
Calgary led 29- 0 in the first half with tries from Taejah Thomson, Kasselle Menin, Hannah Penkala, Elysa Sandron, and Berlyn Seselja, and 2 conversions by Isla Shill.
The 'Horns came back strong in the second half with tries from Abigail Duguid, Karlee Durfee, and a converted try by Sara Cline, and Caitlin Sears.
The Dinos did not go unnoticed in the second half as few key players were subbed, but continued to stay on the board and managed a converted try by Tianna Janfield, and Elysa Sandron as well as another try courtesy of Kasselle Menin.
With the win, Calgary Improves to 4-0, while Lethbridge falls to 1-.
The Pronghorns have next week off from Canada West action but will return to action on October 11
th when they host these same Dinos at the University Community Stadium in Lethbridge.
