LETHBRIDGE – Facing a gauntlet of 10 games in five days, the Lethbridge Pronghorn Ringette team narrowly missed winning the University Challenge Cup hosted in Guelph, Ontario, falling to provincial rival Calgary Dinos 5-4 in the gold medal game.

While disappointed in the heartbreaking loss, the silver medal is the top finish by the Pronghorns in the five trips the Pronghorns have made to the University Challenge Cup. The Pronghorns previous best finish was a third place result two years ago.

"We had a great run at the National tournament," said head coach Trevor Hall. "The team had a powerful tournament and played with heart and determination."

"We will take a week to recover from the ten games in five days event and then it's back to league play and the tune up for the provincial championship in March."

In the gold medal game, The Pronghorns cut the Dinos lead to one goal with five minutes to play but were unable to notch the equalizer over the final five minutes. Alyssa Hart scored twice in the final, while Shyla Bruvall picked up a goal and an assist. Perri Mazurkewich scored the other Pronghorn goal.

The Pronghorns opened the tournament with six straight wins, beating University of Ottawa 4-2 and Western 10-1 on day one. On day two the Pronghorns beat the host University of Guelph 3-2 and Dalhousie University 8-4.

Continuing the hot streak, the Pronghorns beat Laurentian University 8-1 and handed Brock University a 4-1 loss.

Day four the Pronghorns opened with a 5-1 win over NAIT, before suffering their first set back of the tournament with close 4-3 loss to Wilfred Laurier.

To punch their ticket to the gold medal game, the Pronghorns beat Carleton University 4-2 to open the final day of the tournament.
