Pronghorns and Dinos square off in home-and-home

LETHBRIDGE – Coming off a sweep to open the second semester of Canada West action, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team takes on southern Alberta rival Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home series, looking to solidify a post-season position.
 
The Pronghorns and Dinos will take the first game of the weekend set to the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge Thursday night with puck drop slated for 7:00 p.m. Admission for Thursday night's game is free for University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College students with a valid ID card.

Game two of home-and-home is Friday night at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary at 7:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.
 
A look at the teams
 
Following the sweep of the Regina Cougars last weekend, the Lethbridge Pronghorns (7-9-2) have taken a stranglehold of the sixth and final playoff spot in Canada West. Entering this week's action and with 10 games to play, the Pronghorns lead the Manitoba Bisons by eight points and the Regina Cougars by nine points.
 
With a pair of dominating wins, the Pronghorns have also set their sights up the standings, trailing UBC by four points for fifth and MRU by six points for fourth.
 
Also competing in their first action of 2019, the Calgary Dinos (11-6-1) picked up a home split with the conference leading Saskatchewan Huskies. After dropping a 3-1 decision Friday night, the Dinos rebounded with a solid 3-0 win over the top seeded Huskies.
 
Earlier this season, the Dinos swept the Pronghorns in a home-and-home series, winning 4-1 in Lethbridge and 3-0 in Calgary.
 
Players to watch
 
Coming off a seven point weekend, Pronghorn senior forward Justin Valentino vaulted up the Canada West scoring list and is tied for second in conference scoring with seven goals and 14 assists. Valentino has also record at least one point in nine of his last 10 games.
 
Forward Torrin White also had a strong start to 2019 with two goals and three assists last weekend and sits second in Pronghorn scoring with seven goals and six assists in 12 games. He has already set career highs in goals and points this season.
 
With two solid starts last weekend, goaltender Garret Hughson moved into second place in save percentage in Canada West at 0.926% and has faced the second most shots in Canada West (529).
 
For the Dinos, Riley Sheen leads the team with 21 points and is the Canada West leader in goals with 12 in 18 games.
 
Defenseman Dylan Busenius is tied for second in Canada West defencemen scoring with a goal and 12 assists and is a plus-15, which is also tied for second in Canada West.
 
Thus far this season, the Dinos have platooned the pair of Matthew Greenfield and Jordan Papirny in the Dinos crease. Greenfield has a 2.30 goal-against average compared to Papirny's 2.66 but both have save percentages under 0.900.
