A look at the teams:
Following a sweep of the Regina Cougars last weekend, the Pronghorns improved to 3-1-0 on the season, but head into a tough stretch of the schedule. Following this week's road trip, the Pronghorns will host the defending Canada West Champion Alberta Golden Bears.
Through the first four games of the season, the Pronghorns have allowed the third fewest goals against at 12 and sit fourth in goals for with 16.
Special teams have been important for the Pronghorns thus far, sitting first in penalty killing, allowing only two goals against in 18 opportunities. The team sits fifth in power play at 28.6% but have had the fewest power play opportunities.
Third-year defenceman Dallas Valentine leads the Pronghorns in scoring with six points on a goal and five assists. He also leads the team in plus/minus at plus six.
Freshman Kyle Gordon has also had a good start to his Pronghorn career and leads all Canada West rookies in scoring with two goals and three assists in four games.
For perennial contenders, the start of the 2019-20 season has not been kind to the Huskies (0-3-1). After being swept at home by the Mount Royal Cougars to open the season, the Huskies lost both in Edmonton to the defending Canada West Champion Alberta Golden Bears, picking up a single point in a 3-3 overtime loss on Saturday.
The Huskies have unexpectedly struggled at both ends of the ice, allowing the second most goals against with 20 in four games, while also only scoring nine goals for. Last season, the Huskies allowed a conference low 49 goals against.
Slow out of the gates offensively, the Huskies have eight players with at least two points and are led by senior forward Levi Cable with a goal and two assists in four games.
