LETHBRIDGE – Returning to action following a conference wide bye, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team hosts their first home games of the Canada West season, welcoming the Regina Cougars to town for a pair of games.
The Pronghorns and Cougars will hit the ice at Nicholas Sheran Arena Friday night at 7:00 pm and Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Both games will also be streamed live for pay per view on
www.canadawest.tv, presented by Co-op.
A look at the teams:
During the season opening weekend two weeks ago, the Pronghorns (1-1-0) picked up a split in Winnipeg with the Manitoba Bisons. After losing the season opener 2-0, the Pronghorns rebounded with a 5-4 win.
A pair of freshmen made an immediate impact in the game-two win. Michael Clarke and Owen Guenter, both former Humboldt Broncos, each record a goal and an assist in the win.
Third-year forward Brooks Maxwell also notched a goal and an assist in the win, including the game winning goal in the opening minutes of the third period, while short handed.
Special teams were solid for the Pronghorns during the first weekend of he season with the power play hitting on 25% of the chances, while the penalty killing unit killed off eight of nine Bison opportunities.
A season ago, the Pronghorns swept the season series with the Regina Cougars, winning 6-1 and 6-2 in Lethbridge and 4-2 and 4-3 in Regina.
Opening the season at home, the Regina Cougars (0-2-0) were handily beaten by the Calgary Dinos, 8-1 and 5-1. During the two losses, the Cougars went 0-for-7 with the power play and allowed four power play goals on 17 times shorthanded.
Tate Coughlin and Ben Duperrault were the lone Cougars to score in the two games versus the Dinos.
