BRANDON, Man. – The Lethbridge Pronghorns' second-half adjustments helped them pick up a 64-54 win over the host Brandon Bobcats Saturday night.
The Bobcats led for the entire first half but the Pronghorns perimeter defence and full court press slowed Brandon's offence to a near stand-still in the second half.
Despite the strong start from the Bobcats, Lethbridge never lost faith and now moves to 3-1 in conference play on the season.
"We had to make sure we got out to the three-point line because they were hitting all of their shots. They were 7-for-15 I think at half-time and that's a really good percentage so we just had to make sure we puts lots of pressure on them on the arc," said Kacie Bosch.
"We focused more on defence and with our press we just tried to slow them down a bit to get some stops to get some momentum on offence to give us a bit of an energy boost in the fourth quarter."
Brandon jumped to a 16-9 lead before taking a 33-24 lead into the half-time break.
Lethbridge came out of the gates gangbusters in the second half, and it wasn't even that the offence was clicking, but it was that they were able to hold the Bobcats to just seven points in the third quarter.
Lethbridge worked the full-court press effectively in the fourth, forcing the Bobcats offence to go cold.
There was no score from either team in the fourth quarter until Katie Keith's lay-up four minutes into the frame put the 'Horns ahead 45-40.
In reflecting on her team's performance, Bosch was happy with how the team has come together early in the season.
"We share the ball really well. We get the ball to the hot hand and find open people and we never get down on each other if there's a lull in the game, we make sure that we dig each other out and we just play together the entire time," Bosch added.
Keith led all scorers with 17 points while Jessica Zaworny finished with 14 and Bosch had 14 points.
The Bobcats were led by Adrianna Proulx's double-double performance of 13 points and 10 rebounds while Kylie Weckend had 13 points. Logan Biccum had 11 points for Brandon, all of which came in the first half.
The Pronghorns return home to host the Manitoba Bisons next weekend while the Bobcats head on their first conference road trip of the season to Calgary to play the Dinos.
