Fourth rugby sevens season begins in Edmonton this weekend

LETHBRIDGE – Following a second consecutive third place finish during the 2019 Canada West sevens series, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's rugby team is set to start the 2020 series this weekend in Edmonton.
 
Trinity Western University and UBC Okanagan will join the original six teams of Alberta, Calgary, UBC, Victoria, Lethbridge, and Fraser Valley, as the eight-team circuit will once again feature three tournaments.

The second stop of the series will make its way to Vancouver (hosted by UBC) and finally to Vancouver Island in March (hosted by Victoria). The 2020 CW champion will be crowned based on cumulative series points.
 
This weekend, the Pronghorns will open the Alberta stop Saturday with three preliminary games, starting at 10:12 am versus the Fraser Valley Cascades. Up next will be a match up with one of the new additions this season, facing the UBCO Heat and 12:46, before closing out day one at 3:42 pm versus the Canada West 15s Champion UBC Thunderbirds.
 
Following Saturday's games, the top two teams in each pool advance to the semi-finals on Sunday with the top team in each pool taking on the second place finisher in the other pool. The winners will face off in the final at 3:06 p.m. Sunday.
 
To determine the overall Champion of the series, the following point system will be used for each tournament:
 
Ranking points
Winner – 15
Runner up – 12
Third place – 10
Fourth place – 8
Fifth place – 6
Sixth place – 4
Seventh place – 2
Eighth place – 1
 
The second stop of the sevens series will be hosted by UBC in Vancouver, February 1st and 2nd.
