At home earlier this season, the Pronghorns swept the Cougars in Lethbridge, winning 4-1 and 7-5 at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
A Look at the teams:
Sitting tied for the final playoff spot with 12 games to play, the Pronghorns (5-10-1) enter an important part of the season where every point will be valuable. In their last action before the semester break the Pronghorns split a series on the road with Manitoba.
Through 16 games, the Pronghorns sit tied for sixth in goals for with 39 and are seventh in goals against, allowing 71 goals against.
A bright spot in the first half was the Pronghorns power play, sitting third in Canada West operating at 25.5% but have had the fewest power play opportunities in the conference.
Brooks Maxwell and Landon Jones lead the Pronghorns in scoring with four goals and seven assists each but a pair of rookies are only a point behind for the team lead. Luke Coleman (6G, 4A) and Michael Clarke (4G, 6A) are both in the top 10 of freshman scoring in Canada West with 10 points.
The Cougars (2-12-2) sit in eighth but are only five points behind the Pronghorns and UBC Thunderbirds for the final playoff spot. The Cougars have lost six straight games heading into the second semester of action.
Regina sits eighth in Canada West in both goals for (30) and goals against (73).
Tristen Frei leads the Cougars in scoring with five goals and three assists but Regina has added former Swift Current Broncos Captain Tanner Nagel for the second half of the season. Nagel had 13 goals and 10 assists for the Broncos last season and played parts of two seasons with the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
