Pronghorns clash with Cougars in home-and-home

LETHBRIDGE – With only three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's hockey team will look to end a six game losing streak and keep themselves within striking distance of the last playoff spot in a home-and-home series with the Mount Royal Cougars.
 
The two game weekend set kicks off Friday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena at 7:00 pm, with the rematch going Saturday night in Calgary at the Flames Community Arena at 6:00 pm. Both games will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv, presented by co-op.
 
During the first semester, the Pronghorns and Cougars split the first series with each team winning on their home ice. Mount Royal won 6-2 in Calgary, while the Pronghorns clipped the Cougars 4-3 in a shootout the next night.
 
A look at the teams
 
Stalled in a six game losing streak, the Pronghorns (5-16-1) sit six points out of the final playoff spot with six games to play, trailing the UBC Thunderbirds, who the Pronghorns host next weekend.
 
Last weekend, the Pronghorns dropped a pair of games to the U SPORTS second-ranked Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton.
 
The trio of Luke Coleman, Landon Gross and Brooks Maxwell lead the Pronghorns in scoring with 13 points each. Coleman, a first-year Pronghorns leads the team with eight goals and sits seventh in Canada West rookie scoring.
 
The Cougars (13-7-2) clinched a playoff spot last week with a sweep of the Regina Cougars but are still battling for a first round bye. Currently in fourth place, the Cougars are two points back of Calgary for third and four points behind Saskatchewan for second and the sought after bye to open the post-season.
 
Second in the conference in goals for, the Cougars attack is led by second-year forward Ryley Lindgren, who sits third in Canada West scoring with 13 goals and 10 assists. Freshman Connor Blake leads all Canada West defenceman in scoring with 19 points.

Next weekend, the Pronghorns host the UBC Thunderbirds Friday night and Saturday afternoon in a crucial set of games if the Pronghorns are going to make a push for a playoff spot.
