LETHBRIDGE – Heading into the final weekend of the Canada West season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's rugby team sets out on the road in a clash of U SPORTS Top 10 ranked teams.

The Pronghorns open the two game trip Thursday in Vancouver versus the defending Canada West Champion UBC Thunderbirds and will wrap up the regular season Sunday in Victoria versus the Vikes.

Thursday kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm PST and will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv, presented by Co-op. The Pronghorns and Vikes will hit the field Sunday at 11:30 am PST.

A look at the teams

Coming off a 22-14 win over the Calgary Dinos this past week, the Pronghorns (3-1-0) remained ranked ninth in the U SPORTS top 10 this week and will look to challenge for top stop in the conference this weekend.

Currently, the Pronghorns are tied in points with the Thunderbirds for top spot in Canada West with two games to play for both teams.

Gwen Fillinger has continued her strong play for the Pronghorns, scoring another try this past week and is tied for the team lead in tries this season with fifth-year lock Abby Duguid with three in four games.

Sitting fifth in the U SPORTS rankings, the UBC Thunderbirds (3-0-0) are the defending Canada West Champions, winning the programs first title in Lethbridge in 2019 and have yet to lose so far this season.

Having last played on October 3rd, when they beat the Calgary Dinos 39-20, the Thunderbirds will be well rested for Thursday's game.

Second-year fly half Savannah Bauder leads all Canada West players in scoring with 51 points. Bauder has scored six tries in three games, while making nine converts and one penalty goal.

Ranked seventh in the country, the Vikes (2-1-0) will also be well rested when they take on the Pronghorns on Sunday. In their last action on September 30th, the Vikes beat the Calgary Dinos 43-10.

The lone loss the Vikes have suffered thus far was a 31-15 loss on home field versus the UBC Thunderbirds to open the 2021 Canada West season.

Statistically, the Vikes are led by first-year centre Larah Wright, who has scored three tries in as many games.

Up Next

With the Canada West final four on the horizon, the Pronghorns currently sit in a good position to play in one of two semi-finals in Calgary on October 28th, which semi-final and opposition will still be determined by the outcomes of the remaining games.
