10/17/2021 5:21:00 PM

VICTORIA – Closing out the Canada West conference schedule and playing the second nationally ranked opponent in four days, the 9th ranked Lethbridge Pronghorns were stymied offensively and dropped their second consecutive game, 29-0 to 7th ranked Victoria Vikes.

The loss drops the Pronghorns to 3-3 on the season and will finish third in Canada West, advancing to the Canada West final four, hosted by the Calgary Dinos in two weeks' time. The Vikes improve to 3-1 and will face the conference leading UBC Thunderbirds next week and depending on bonus points could overtake the T-Birds for top spot.

In the 16th minute, the Vikes opened the scoring on a Zoe Williams try. Alexie Pusch hit the covert to open a 7-0 lead.

16 minutes later, Gabrielle Senft's unconverted try pushed the Vikes lead to 12-0, which was also the score as the teams headed into halftime.

The Vikes offensive attack continued in the 56th minute with Renee Gonzalez touching down the ball for a 17-0 lead.

Shaylaya Valenzuella and Chanelle Edwards-Challenger scored tries in the 62nd and 80th minute to secure the Vikes win. Brooke Bazian convert the Edwards-Challenger try for a 29-0 final.

The Pronghorns will have 11 days between games now and play in one of two semi-finals in Calgary on October 28th. While their opponent is yet to be determined, they will face either the UBC Thunderbirds or the Vikes, with the winner advancing to both the Canada West final and the U SPORTS Championship, hosted by Queen's University second week of November.
