LETHBRIDGE – Looking to rebound from a tight loss on the road last weekend in Calgary, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's rugby team heads north this weekend to take on the Alberta Pandas in Edmonton and determined to secure the Suggitt Cup.

Kick-off is slated for 1:00 pm at Foote Field on University of Alberta campus.

In the season opening game for both teams, the Pronghorns beat the Pandas 53-7 to take a one game lead in the annual Suggitt Cup.

A look at the teams

Last weekend in Calgary, the Pronghorns (1-1-0) dropped a hard fought 12-6 decision to the Calgary Dinos at McMahon Stadium. Fifth-year scrum half Caitlin Sears accounted for all six Pronghorn points, kicking two penalty goals in the second half.

Through two games, Sears leads the Pronghorns in points with 19, all from kicking. She has hit for five converts and three penalty goals.

Also in her final season with the Pronghorns, Abby Duguid leads the team in tries with two.

The start of the 2021 Canada West season has been a tough one for the Alberta Pandas (0-3-0). In three games this season, the Pandas have been outscored 150 to 12.

Last weekend on the west coast, the Pandas lost both games, losing 60-5 in Vancouver to the UBC Thunderbirds and 37-0 in Victoria to the Victoria Vikes.

Cassie Jorgenson and Maria Sawiak have each scored a try this season to lead the Pandas offensively.
