CALGARY – Playing the first of two in Calgary, the Lethbridge Pronghorns men's soccer team fell behind early and were not able to recover, dropping a 5-0 decision to the Mount Royal Cougars.
The loss was the fourth straight to open the season for the Pronghorn (0-4-0), while the seventh nationally ranked Cougars remain undefeated and improve to 3-0-1.
Starting with a goal 16 minutes in, the Cougars scored four times in the opening half and cruised to a convincing victory. Mowbray Beghin scored his second of the season to open the scoring. In a span of three minutes starting at the 30-minute mark, the Cougars scored three times to break open the game. Abel Nesibu made the score 2-0, before Mohamed El Gandour scored goals in quick succession to pick up his third and fourth goals of the season.
While the Pronghorns only surrendered one goal in the second half, they were not able to mount a comeback.
On the day the Cougars had 23 shot attempts to the Pronghorns seven with 11 finding the mark, while the Pronghorns put five shots on the Cougars net.
The Pronghorns will hit the pitch again tomorrow afternoon in Calgary, this time traveling across the Bow River to face the Calgary Dinos, kick-off is slated for 2:15. Catch all the action on
