Big second half propels the Spartans past the Pronghorns

LETHBRIDGE - The men's soccer game between the University of Lethbridge and Trinity Western University was the second event of the inaugural Horns Triple Header. In the first half both teams scored a goal, going into halftime at a tie. TWU scored another three goals in the second half to walk away with a 4-1 win.

Lethbridge's loss gives them a record of 1-5-0, while Trinity now stands at 4-2-1.

The game started strong for the Pronghorns, with the first goal being scored in the 9th minute. It was scored by second-year player Kai Sakaguchi, who found himself on the receiving end of teammate Alasdair Coyle's free kick just outside the Spartan's penalty area.

In the 34th minute the TWU Spartans tied the score through the efforts of Adam Hajdecki and Christian Rossi.

In the first part of the second half, we saw a little slower action, with the Horns getting a close kick from the 30-yard line. It was a strong effort by Coyle, and while Sakaguchi got his head on the ball, it just missed the net.

At the 1-hour mark things started to pick up with a goal from the TWU Spartans. After a though battle with Pronghorn defenders, Soren Di Sabatino beat goalkeeper Tegan Romaine to the post and got the ball in, with help from teammate Christian Rossi. Not long after, TWU's Keishean Francois scored their 3rd goal, assisted by Soren Di Sabatino.

At the 90-minute mark Trinity scored its final goal when their kick bounced off a Pronghorn's head and accidentally landed in their own net for an own goal.

Trinity Western had 12 shots in the first half, and 10 in the second half, while Lethbridge had only 2 in the first half and 6 in the second.

The Pronghorns will have their next game on Sunday, September 18th at home, hosting the UNBC Timberwolves. The TWU Spartans will go to Mount Royal for their next game.
