LETHBRIDGE – Kicking off the inaugural Horns Triple Header, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's soccer team earned their first point of the season with a 1-1 tie with the UBCO Heat.
The tie moves the Pronghorns record to 0-3-1, while the Heat's record is now 1-2-2.
Hailey Slobodian scored the lone goal for the Pronghorns, while Amanda White responded for the Heat.
Getting off on the right foot, the Pronghorns put the pressure on the Heat getting the games first shot in the opening minute, but Lucy Mundy was turned aside.
Returning the favour, the Heat had their first good look before the game hit the five-minute mark. Pronghorn keeper Bridie Harding had to make a solid save off Heat's Yvonne Manwaring point blank.
The two teams traded close chances throughout the opening 20 minutes but neither team were able to cash in early.
In the 25
th minute, the Pronghorns would finally capitalize. Anneke De Klerk worked a give and go with Lucy Mundy and then found Hailey Slobodian deep in the Heat box for a tap in. It was Slobodian's second goal of the season.
The Heat responded less than 10 minutes later. Annika Gross took the ball in the middle of the field and slipped a past the Pronghorn defenders to a on running Amanda White. One-on-one with Pronghorn keeper Harding, White slid a shot through the legs of a sliding Harding.
At the break the Pronghorns held a slim five to four shot on goal advantage, while the Heat attempted three corner kicks to the Pronghorns two.
Early in the second half, Harding made a strong save off of Gross to keep the game knotted at one. Gross collected the ball in the middle of the penalty area but Harding was able to deflect her high shot over the crossbar.
With just over 15 minutes to play, the Pronghorns came dangerously close to breaking the tie. Off a ricochet, Tory Clements had a close chance, however Heat's keeper Molly Race was able to get her body on the shot and deflect the shot into touch.
The close chance sparked the Pronghorns attack and had a trio of opportunities deep in the Heat penalty area but were unable to capitalize.

In the 63
rd minute the Pronghorns had their chance to break the deadlock but Lucy Mundy's strike just sailed wide and that would be as close as either team would get to breaking the tie game.
The Pronghorns will remain on home turf tomorrow afternoon, hosting the TRU WolfPack, kick off is slated for noon. The UBCO Heat head north to face the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary.
