9/2/2022 8:28:00 PM

CALGARY – Opening the season on the road, the Lethbridge Pronghorns fell behind 17-0 in the opening half and were not able to mount a comeback, falling 36-17 to the Calgary Dinos.

Daisy Shackley scored the first try on Friday afternoon, getting the Dinos attack started in the 19th minute. Taejah Thompson was successful on the convert, and later added three more points off a penalty.

Julia Omokhluale scored another try for the Dinos, giving them a 17-0 first half lead.

The Pronghorns built some momentum out of half time with a quick try by Keegan Brantner, scored eight minutes into the second half.

Former 7s national team member Delaney Aikens made her impact there after with back-to-back tries to build up a 22-point advantage for the Dinos.

Calgary's Katie Salverda and Lethbridge's Mackenzie Hutten and Genna Wright added late tries to bring the score to 36-17.

"We are really proud of our young squad today," said Pronghorn Head Coach Graeme Moffat. "We stared the game strongly and we were unlucky not to get some more points on the board."

The Pronghorns only return five starters from the 3-3 2021 Pronghorns team and have 15 new faces on the squad this season.

"While the Dinos' dominated territorially, there were many positives to build on, including 14 players making their Pronghorn debut today."

The Pronghorns will be on the road next weekend, traveling to Edmonton to take on the Alberta Pandas in the first leg of the Suggitt Cup.
