Second ranked T-Birds topple Pronghorns

VANCOUVER – The U SPORTS No. 2- ranked UBC Thunderbirds (3-0) showed off the depth of their roster with a 74-25 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns (1-4) at the Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Centre.
 
The T-Birds remain undefeated after eight different players scored tries – including two first-year 'Birds – and the team put up an impressive eight tries in the first half enroute to victory. The Pronghorns record falls to 1-4-0 after the loss.
 
 
Savannah Bauder opened the scoring in the third minute of play and added another try early in the second half to go along with seven conversions in the convincing victory. In the tenth minute, Piper Logan offloaded to Florence Symonds who found Shoshanah Seumanutafa for the score between the uprights – her first of two tries on the afternoon – but Kenya Richards responded with a try for the Pronghorns at 12-5 'Birds. Olivia Sarabura scored her first of two tries on the outside in the 20th minute and just two minutes later Logan received a Lethbridge kick and broke free to touch down between the posts at 26-5.
 
 
Karlee Durfey got Lethbridge back on the board with her first of two tries to cut into the T-Bird lead, before first-year Thunderbird Kendra Roberts notched her first U SPORTS try at 33-10 'Birds and rookie Sarah Fong scored her first in the blue and gold four minutes later for a 40-10 cushion. Logan ran in her second try moments before the halftime whistle for a 54-10 advantage at the break. The Pronghorns scored three tries in the second half, but Jordan McLeod punctuated the UBC victory with a try in the final minute of play for a 74-25 final.

 Savanna Collison scored the other two tries for the Pronghorns.
 
 
The 'Birds are back in action on Sunday, October 2nd, to host the University of Alberta Pandas (2-2) in their final home game of the regular season.
 
 
Lethbridge now has a lengthier break before closing out their regular season on Friday, October 7th, at home against the University of Calgary Dinos.
