LETHBRIDGE – Continuing the busy stretch to open the Canada West season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's rugby team is on the road again this weekend, heading to Edmonton to face the Alberta Pandas in the first leg of the Suggitt Cup.

The Pronghorns and Pandas will hit the field in Edmonton at 7:00 PM Saturday night. Catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv.

After a sweep of the Pandas last year, the Pronghorns have won three of four Suggitt Cups. The Suggitt Cup is in honour of former Pronghorn Head Coach Ric Suggitt and is a two game aggregate-total points between the two teams.

The second leg of the Suggitt Cup will happen next Saturday, as part of the Horns Triple Header. For more information on the Horns Triple Header go to: https://gohorns.ca/sports/2022/7/22/horns-triple-header.aspx

A look at the teams

The Pronghorns (0-1-0) opened the season last weekend in Calgary and dropped a 36-17 decision in a game that saw 14 new Pronghorns see their first Canada West game action.

After a strong opening 10 minutes, the Pronghorns fell behind 17-0 and were not able to make up the deficit in the second half.

Senior leaders Keegan Brantner and Genna Wright each scored tries, while second-year lock Mackenzie Hutten scored the other try. Newcomer Verity Fex picked up her first points as a Pronghorn, kicking a convert on Brantner's try.

For the Pandas (0-0-0), this weekend will mark the opening of their conference schedule after having a bye last week.

In the Canada West coaches' preseason poll, the Pandas were ranked fifth out of five teams and are coming off a winless season in 2021.
