Pronghorns Outlast Heat in Nail Biter

LETHBRIDGE – In the Pronghorns' home opener at the University of Lethbridge Gymnasium, the Horns battled back and forth against the visiting, UBC Okanagan with the fate of the game coming down to the final seconds. It was Kyra Collier who came up with the game-winner for the Pronghorns, earning the bucket with six seconds left on the clock to procure the victory for the Horns. Kamryn DeKlerk came up big for Lethbridge in the Friday night game, going 4-5 from the three to finish the game with 27 points, while Jaeli Ibbetson led scoring for the Heat with 18 points.
  • The Pronghorns came to play during the Home Opener at the University of Lethbridge Gymnasium, finding the back cut to take the first points of the game.
  • UBC Okanagan Heat picked up in the full court, but the Horns were able to break the pressure, as both teams traded scores early in the game until the Horns went on a run fueled by Kamryn DeKlerk to stretch the lead to eight.
  • The Heat battled back, as a big three from Aiko Williams brought UBCO within three. As the clock expired on the first quarter, it was the Heat that led 18-17.
  • In the second, the Pronghorns went on a run, stretching the lead to 37-29 but UBCO chipped away to bring the game back and ended the second half with the Horns up 39-37.
  • Kamryn De Klerk finished the first half with ten points for the Horns, matched by Jaeli Ibbetson with ten as well for the Heat.
  • Vlada Hozalova and Kamryn De Klerk both nailed threes for the Pronghorns to stretch the lead again to eight, but UBCO wasn't going away as they battled to get boards on the defensive end, as well as forcing a front court turnover off the press.
  • Kamryn De Klerk hit back-to-back threes to give the Pronghorns their largest lead in the game at 60-48.
  • Lauren Foullong chalked a three-point shot for the visiting Heat. As the third quarter expired the Heat executed one more set and Abby Smith earned the layup bring UBCO within six.
  • The Heat started the fourth quarter strong, finding their way back to within two off of three point makes by Kelsey, Falk, Aiko Williams and Sofia Ainsa Lluch.
  • Pronghorns turnover with 2:30 left in the fourth gave the Heat the ball back but Abby Graves came up with the stop for the Pronghorns, getting the back back on the offensive end to put the Horns back up by four. UBCO scored on their next offensive possession, two-point game.
  • UBCO called a time out with less than a minute on the game clock and Jaeli Ibbetson came up with the layup to tie it. Pronghorn Head Coach, Dave Waknuk called timeout and Kamryn DeKlerk found the hoop over her defender putting the Horns back up two.
  • With nine seconds left on the clock, Abby Smith made the layup to tie it for the Heat. The Horns called a timeout, and it was Kyra Collier who elevated above her defender to get the advantage for Pronghorns. With six seconds left on the clock, the Heat couldn't earn the bucket and the Horns took the victory in their first home game of the season.
