Pronghorns Split with Heat

POST GAME
LETHBRIDGE – It was the Heat that took the victory on the second of the head-to-head matchup at the Univeristy of Lethbridge Gymnasium, as the Horns couldn't catch the Heat in the final moments of the game. On Friday, the Pronghorns chalked the two-point win, but roles were reversed on Saturday.

BREAKDOWN
  • Piper Dobbelsteyn started strong in game two of the home series against the UBC Okanagan Heat, hitting two back-to-back shots from beyond the arc in the first two minutes. The Heat answered to a three of their own by third-year, Aiko Williams. The Pronghorns struggled to hit shots as the quarter progressed and the Heat ened the first up 21-12.
  • UBCO continued to press fullcourt, disrupting the Horns and forcing several turnovers for the home team. The Heat were able to stretch the score to 14, before Jenessa Doctor drained one from beyond the arc to give the Pronghorns a boost.
  • Abby Graves hit her second three-pointer of the game with less than a minute left in the first half to put the Horns back within single digits, but the Heat made a quick drive at the other end of the follow, as Jaeli Ibbetson earned the contested layup to put UBCO back up ten to end the first half.
  • Pronghorns started the second half with more composure, working to deep into the shot clock before putting up the shot. Piper Dobbelsteyn chalked another bucket from beyond the arc starting the momentum for Lethbridge and bringing the game back within one.
  • Horns rookie, Courtney McKee made a key run for the Pronghorns, making the extra effort to get a hand on a loose ball on the defense end before nailing a decisive three to put Lethbridge up by four. Going into the fourth quarter, it was the Pronghorns who led 48-44 after holding the Heat to only six points in the third quarter.
  • The fourth quarter continued to be a back-and-forth game. At 5:24 in the fourth, Piper Dobbelsteyn earned her 20th point of the game off a reverse layup to put the Horns up seven, before the Heat went down to the other end where Jaeli Ibbetson added to her total, finishing with 23 points in the game.
  • A turnover for the Pronghorns with less than three minutes on the clock, gave the ball back to the Heat and Rachel Hettinga got the layup to drop putting UBCO up four.
  • A Heat foul with 25 seconds on the clock sent Abby Graves to the line for the Horns. Graves dropped both shots and the Horns narrowed the gap to one. UBCO was unable to score in their final possession, giving the Pronghorns the ball back as the clock counted down. Viktoriia Kovalevska launched a last second shot from beyond the arc, but it missed the target and the Horns dropped the second round matchup.
